The only reason I am even writing this is because I know he doesn't read my blog... kinda like, "ho-hum, Mom, what can you possibly have to say that would be of interest to me?"
Billy called today..usually a welcome thing, until I heard his tone...his voice, hurt.. and PISSED.
In his "real job" here in the civilian world, he works as a Police Dispatcher for a neighboring town. He was told "pre-deployment" that he would be receiving his pay for an additional 3 - 6 months after being deployed because he worked for the government in a "civil service" type position. He was told this by the Army.
I went (as he asked) to pick up his check on Saturday, to put it in his account, I was told that he was not entitled to any more checks, since he was no longer employed by the Police Department. I called him, left a message, he checked it out, and sure enough, because he was a "Dispatcher", he fell into another contract and was not eligible for the money. Money that he counted on. Money that he was told he would be receiving.
He
was
pissed.
So pissed, that first thing he did after being told, was slam his phone down, and break it (can you say "anger management?") ..
Now he has..
no checks..
no cell phone...
and he is feeling betrayed.
Now is a time that he is supposed to be concentrating on learning how to stay alive over there..how to protect himself.
Instead, he is fixated on how he feels he has been screwed and lied to.
I would call him... but I can't, duh, he now has no phone.
I feel so badly for him, I spring right into "MOM Mode" when someone f*cks with one of my kids...
I sooo want to make him "6" again, when I could swoop in and fix everything....
I feel helpless...this sucks...

Oh girl. I know that sucks. I am mailing off his care package soon...

Oh cripes. I can't believe that they lied to him that way. That totally sucks. So so sorry.

Poor guy--I have heard of these things happening too often. My husband was told when he signed up for the Coast Guard that he could be a photographer. Then once he was in, they laughed in his face and he ended up being an electronics tech.
